SakuraCon 2001 Panel Reports

posted on
UMJAMS has an incredible selection of news from SakuraCon.. Spriggan, Bubblegum Crisis 2040 (and more?) on TV, and more news tidbits..

Although to long to reprint in its entirety, here are some highlights from the UMJAMS article:

ADV News
"ADV continues to negotiate to get Nadia of the Mysterious Seas and Martian Successor Nadesico on television."

"[Matt] Greenfield noted that Spriggan got what he felt was a well-deserved "R" from the MPAA for its violence, which he emphasized made a show that was not for children."

"Bubblegum Crisis 2040 will be broadcast on TV this year as possibly will be Nadia on the Blue Water."

Bandai News
"Bandai and Viz will release the Jin-Roh movie in theaters starting 25 May in New York, San Fransisco and LA. It'll open in Seattle on 29 June. They are hoping to get the Escaflowne movie in theaters by the end of the year."

"Bandai Ent. does not yet have the rights to the Bebop movie."

In addition, on the American Anime Dubbing ML, Matt Greenfield clarified their acquisition of "Sorceror on the Rocks", as some reports confused it with the Bakuretsu Hunters (Sorcerer Hunters) OAV series:

"Sorceror On The Rocks' original Japanese title is Chivas 1-2-3 and it's set in the Sorcerer Hunters universe. Unfortunately, there's a bit of a legal complication to using that name. Since Chivas is a registered trademark for a brand of liquor and all of the characters in Chivas have names based on drinks (Chivas, Gin Fizz, etc.,) we couldn't legally call the series by that name in North America. As for the show itself, think of Sorcerer Hunters crossed with Bastard!! and you've got a good idea of what this show is like."
