Otogizoushi to premiere July 2004 on NTV
Production I.G has announced on its Japanese Website that they are producing a new tv series that will be broadcast on Nihon TV in July 2004.
Otogizoushi takes place in the mid-Heian period (roughly 1000ad). Kyoto is ravaged by starvation and epidemic, nevertheless the lords and samurai continue their ugly strugles for political supremacy.
The Imperial Court, sympathetic towards the suffering of the people, orders Minamoto no Yorimitsu, a master archer, to find and retrieve a sacred jade cup that promises to restore peace to Kyoto. Yorimitsu, however, also falls ill due to the epidemic. His youngest sister, Lady Hikaru, decides secretely to make the journey in his place.
Otogizoushi is directed by Mizuho Nishikubo, with Yoshiki Sakurai as the series framework supervisor. Character designs are provided by Kazuchika Kise, based on original character designs by Shōu Tajima.
