Aniplex USA to Stream The irregular at magic high school, Mushishi: The Next Chapter

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

North American anime distributor Aniplex of America announced at its Anime Boston panel on Saturday that it will stream both the The irregular at magic high school, Mushishi: The Next Chapter, Mekaku City Actors and Nanana's Buried Treasure television anime series starting in April. The company will reveal additional details about the streams at a later date.

Aniplex of America describes the The irregular at magic high school anime as follows:

Magic--A century has passed since this concept has been recognized as a formal technology instead of the product of the occult or folklore.

The season is spring and it is time for a brand new school year. At the National Magic University First Affiliate High School, A.K.A Magic High School, students are divided into two distinct groups according to their academic performances. The “Bloom,” who demonstrate the highest grades and are enrolled in the “First Course,” and the “Weed,” who have poor academic records and are enrolled in the “Second Course.”

This spring, a very peculiar brother and sister enroll as new students. The brother is an underachiever with some deficiencies and enrolls as a “Weed,” while his younger sister is an honor student, who enrolls as a “Bloom.”

The brother, with a somewhat philosophical expression, and the younger sister who holds feelings a little stronger than sibling love for him…

Ever since these two have entered through the gates of this prestigious school, the calm campus was beginning to change...

The show will star Yūichi Nakamura as Tatsuya, Saori Hayami as Miyuki Shiba, Takuma Terashima as Leonhart Saijō (Leo), Yumi Uchiyama as Erika Chiba, Satomi Satou as Mizuki Shibata, Sora Amamiya as Honoka Mitsui, Yuiko Tatsumi as Shizuku Kitayama, Marina Inoue as Mari Watanabe, Ryōhei Kimura as Hattori Gyōbu, Junichi Suwabe as Katsuto Jūmonji, Kana Hanazawa as Mayumi Saegusa, Mai Nakahara as Suzune Ichihara, Saki Ogasawara as Azusa Nakajō, Haruka Tomatsu as Sayaka Mibu, Tomokazu Sugita as Takeaki Kirihara, Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as Masaki Ichijō, and Ayumu Murase as Shinkurō Kichōji.

Manabu Ono (Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere, Saki Episode of Side A) is directing the anime with assistant director Yuuji Kumazawa at the Studio Madhouse. Original novel illustrator Kana Ishida is also handling the anime character designs with sub-character designer Maho Yoshikawa. The chief animation directors are Ishida, Maho Yoshikawa, and Shinichi Miyamae, while the action animation directors are Takashi Tomioka and Satoshi Iwataki.

Jimmy Stone and IZMOJUKI (Izumojūki/Junji Okubo) are the CAD and mechanic designers. Rie Ota (Kusanagi) is the art director with art designers Yoshihiro Ishimoto, Yūho Taniuchi, and Akihiro Hirasawa. Yukie Noguchi is the color key artist.

Shūhei Yabuta is the 3D director, and Yūki Kawashita is the director of photography. Kashiko Kimura is editing. LiSA and ELISA will contribute the opening and ending theme songs, respectively.

The anime series will premiere in Japan on Tokyo MX TV and other stations April 4.

Mushishi: The Next Chapter (Mushishi: Zoku-Shō) will reunite most of the staff from the first season, led by director and series script supervisor Hiroshi Nagahama. Cast members Yuto Nakano and Mika Doi are also reprising their roles as Ginko and the narrating voice.

Aniplex USA describes the story:

They existed long before anyone can remember. They are simple and strange in nature, not resembling any other plant or animal in this world. In ancient times, people revered these bizarre creatures and called them “Mushi.”

People once again began to believe in the existence of these "Mushi" when they began affecting their lives in inexplicable ways.

The one who connects the world of “Mushi” to the world of humans—they were called the "Mushi-Shi." All life exists not to hinder others in this world.

They are simply there to live as they were meant to.

Yuki Urushibara's recent two-chapter special manga spinoff of Mushi-Shi inspired the January television special. Kodansha published the manga in the January and February issues of Afternoon magazine, which shipped on November 25 and December 25, respectively. The anime special aired on January 4 at 11:30 p.m. on Tokyo MX, Tochigi TV, Gunma TV, and BS11, and Crunchyroll streamed it into several countries. The series will premiere in Japan on April 4.

SHAFT's Mekaku City Actors anime series by scriptwriter and Vocaloid musical composer JIN (Shizen no Teki-P) will premiere on April 12.

The series will star Kana Asumi as Ene, Kana Hanazawa as Mary, Mamoru Miyano as Konoha, Yūko Kaida as Kido, Nanami Kashiyama as Momo, Shinnosuke Tachibana as Kano, Misuzu Togashi as Hibiya, and Sōichirō Hoshi as Seto.

Aniplex USA describes the story:

The incidents which occurred on August 14th and 15th bring a group of young boys and girls together…

They are members of a group they call themselves the “Mekakushi Dan” (Blindfold Organization) and each member possesses a strange power involving their eyes. Will the members of this peculiar organization be able to solve the mysteries behind these incidents and see the truth?

Nanana's Buried Treasure will air on Fuji TV's Noitamina block based on Kazuma Ōtorino and artist Akaringo's Ryūgajō Nanana no Maizōkin (Nanana's Buried Treasure) novel on April 10.

A-1 Pictures will animate the series. The studio previously animated a promotional video for the novel in December 2011. Kanta Kamei (Bunny Drop, Tales of Vesperia ~The First Strike~, Oreshura) will direct the series, and Hideyuki Kurata (Read or Die, Samurai Flamenco, Oreimo) will handle the series composition. Additionally, Tetsuya Kawakami (chief animation director and sub-character design for Sword Art Online) will adapt Akaringo's character designs for animation, and Keigo Hoashi (Dusk maiden of Amnesia) and monaca (Star Driver, Wagnaria!!, Aikatsu!) will handle the music.

Aniplex USA describes the story:

“I'm going to build a place where young people can challenge to reach any of their dreams!”

The 7 genius students, known as the GREAT 7, launched a project to construct an artificial island called Nanae Island to realize their leader, Nanana Ryugajo's peculiar idea. 12 years later, with a total population of 100,000 people with as much as 80% of those inhabitants being students, Nanae Island has successfully become prosperous as a special student zone. One of the island's newest residents was Jugo Yama--a high school student who had just transferred to the island after being disowned by his father.

One day, Jugo finds in his own apartment the earth-bound spirit of the late Nanana Ryugajo, who was murdered by someone 10 years ago! Jugo's plan of living alone was suddenly thwarted by this strange roommate.

torino and Akaringo launched the novel series in January 2012, and the sixth novel will ship on December 26. The novel won the top prize in the 13th Enterbrain Entertainment Awards in September 2011. In addition to the novel, Hitoshi Okuda launched a manga version in Enterbrain's Famitsu magazine in January 2012, and Enterbrain published the second compiled volume in March. The first volume of a spinoff novel series, Tensai's Reluctant Deduction, shipped in August.
