Sony revealed more details on the upcoming PlayStation 5 game Ghost of Yōtei during Thursday's State of Play presentation. Clocking in at over 20 minutes long, the presentation showcased elements of gameplay, story, audio, and subtitle options, plus three new game modes: the Watanabe Mode, Kurosawa Mode, and Miike Mode.
The Watanabe Mode includes a lo-fi soundtrack during exploration and combat, directed by Samurai Champloo and Cowboy Bebop director Shinichirō Watanabe. The Kurosawa Mode emulates renowned Japanese director Akira Kurosawa's filming style with black and white visuals, film grain, audio filters, and increased wind. Created in collaboration with director Takashi Miike, the Miike Mode honors his cinematography with closer cameras and more blood and mud splatter during combat.
Ghost of Yōtei is the sequel to 2020s Ghost of Tsushima and follows Atsu as she hunts the Yōtei six in Ezo, modern Hokkaido. Ghost of Yōtei is slated for October 2.
