In new film, Yamato warps to mysterious planet to escape a power

The trailer for the compilation film Uchū Senkan Yamato 2199: Tsuioku no Kōkai (Space Battleship Yamato 2199: Voyage of Remembrance) and a teaser trailer for the brand-new film Uchū Senkan Yamato 2199: Hoshi-Meguru Hakobune (Space Battleship Yamato 2199: Star-Voyaging Ark) debuted on Thursday.

The compilation film's trailer proclaims that Yamato 2199 returns in 5.1 surround sound. It will play in event screenings (similar to the earlier limited Yamato 2199 screenings) starting on October 11.

The brand-new film's teaser trailer then confirms that the enemy in the film is Gatlantis. The film will depict "the struggle between the mysterious power Gatlantis and the Yamato crew who encounters it." Before the battleship Yamato returns to Earth, it receives a demand to surrender from a fleet that suddenly appears and calls itself Gatlantis. The Yamato warps to escape and arrives at a mysterious planet floating in an eerie alternate dimension.

Gatlantis also appeared in the 1978 film Farewell Space Battleship Yamato and other Yamato works before Yamato 2199. However, the brand-new Yamato 2199 film will have an original story.

Unlike the previous Yamato 2199 event screenings in theaters, the new film will have a full nationwide release starting on December 6. Advance tickets for the brand-new film are now on sale for 1,500 yen (about US$15) with one of four different illustrated mini shikishi boards by chief director Yutaka Izubuchi, character designer Nobuteru Yuki, chief mechanical director Masanori Nishii, and mechanical designer Junichirō Tamamori.
