Naoki Prize-Winning Author Shogo Imamura's Hit Novel TV Anime 'Oedo Fire Slayer-The Legend of Phoenix-' to be Broadcast in January 2026; Gorgeous Cast Members Unveiled

The TV-anime "Oedo Fire Slayer -The Legend of Phoenix-" will be broadcast in January 2026! Also, as members of the 'Boro-Tobi-Gumi', Yūichirō Umehara, Shūichirō Umeda, Subaru Kimura, Nobunaga Shimazaki, Kenshō Ono and a superb line-up of voice actors will be joining as team members.

Based on the historical fact of the Great Fire of Meiwa, this TV-series is a major spectacle depicting the firefighters who fought against the great fire of Edo.
It is the story of Matsunaga Gengo, a fire-fighting samurai who was once said to be the best in Edo, and the friends who gathered under his command, all with their own quirks, to save the people of Edo from the disaster of fire.

Yūichirō Umehara plays the main character,[Gengo Matsunaga], who tries to rebuild his team as the president of the 'Boro Tobi Gumi' clan, Shūichirō Umeda as the mood-maker and good-natured vice-president[Shinnosuke Torigoe], Kind-hearted former Sumo-Wrestler and a monstrous force of nature[Torajiro]played by Subaru Kimura, [Hikoya], a light artisan who is extremely popular among women in Edo, played by Nobunaga Shimazaki, [Kaji Seijuro], a firebrand military strategist skilled in astronomy and psychology, played by Kenshō Ono.
A superb line-up of voice actors will take charge of the members of the 'Boro-Tobi-Gumi'.

The fire extinguishing samurai who stopped the great fire was called "The fire-eating bird". Matsunaga Gengo, once known as the "Fire-eating Bird", was the best fire-fighting samurai in Edo. He had resigned from the fire brigade for a reason but suddenly received an invitation to serve in the Shinjo clan. The Shinjo clan's fire-fighting team had no money and no personnel and was looked down upon by those around them. With the encouragement of his wife, Miyuki, Gengo decides to rebuild the collapsed fire-fighting clan as its chairman. Gengo and his friends, all of whom have their own peculiarities, struggle to "save any life", despite being ridiculed as "ragged steeplejacks"(= the 'Boro-Tobi-Gumi'.), In Edo, a mysterious series of suspicious fires called "foxfires" continue.

Born 1984 in Kyoto and currently lives in Shiga Prefecture. After working as a dance instructor and Moriyama City archaeological surveyor, in 2016 he won the 23rd Kyushu Sasagawa Popular Literature Award Grand Prize and the Sasazawa Saho Prize for ' Kitsune no Shiro. He made his debut as an author in 2017 with Hikuidori-Ushu Boro Tobi Gumi (Shodensha), which he wrote after a comment by Professor Kenzō Kitakata at the award ceremony. In 2021, he won the 6th Yoshikawa Eiji Bunko Award for his Ushu Boro Tobi Gumi series. In 2022, he won the 166th Naoki Sanjugo Prize for his book ' Saio no Tate ' (Shueisha). After receiving the prize, he spent four months starting in May 2022, visiting bookshops and schools across the country under the title 'Shōgo Imamura's Festival Journey' to express his gratitude for the award. In addition to his writing activities, he also founded and serves as the representative director of Honmirai, a general incorporated association that aims to convey the importance of reading and words to young people. In 2021, he took over the business of the bookshop Kinoshita Book Centre in Minoh, Osaka, followed by the opening of the new Sagano Bookshop in JR Kyushu Saga Station, and in April 2024, he opened the shared bookshop Honmaru in Kanda Jimbocho, Tokyo, and is currently the owner of three shops. His other major works include the Last Samurai Standing series (Kodansha), which will be distributed exclusively worldwide on Netflix.
