5-episode marathon to debut on August 16

The official website for the Monogatari Series Second Season anime began streaming the third promotional video for the anime of NisiOisin's Hanamonogatari (Flower Story) book on Friday. The video features the anime's main theme song, "Hanaato -shirushi-" (What the Flowers Leave Behind -Proof-) by Marina Kawano.

Tooe: You have to be either medicine or poison. Otherwise, you're just water.
Suruga: She was the kind of mother to say that.
Tooe: Suruga, your life is probably a bigger pain in the neck than most people's. Boring and annoying, and there's nothing you can do it about it. However, that's not because you are talented... It's because you're weak. At this rate, you will spend your entire life embracing that weakness.
Suruga: When my father and that person passed away, I was taken in by my grandfather on my father's side, but I always wondered what it was about that person that he fell in love with? It's so weird. Come to think of it, my father once said, "that person is living in place of god..." I remember him saying this. But I can't agree with that opinion. If you ask me, that person was like a demon...
Ougi: Suruga-senpai, do you know the tale of The Lord Demon?
Suruga: I've heard that it's a jinx that's been popular among the students at Naoetsu High School.
Ougi: They say that the demon won't accept requests that are too radical.
Karen: I know the story of the Lord Demon, too!
Ougi: It seems like she's a girl who's in high school. It's not against the rules to have a demon who's full of youth, right?
Suruga: Wait... Then the demon could be me...?
Rōka: So it looks like the rumors about your left hand being beat up... Suruga Kanbaru.
Rōka: You're the eleventh of ten people to go so far as to go see the demon at her own house.
Suruga: There are things you can't solve by running away.
Rōka: I'm just going to seriously listen to your story.
Rōka: It's a little unfortunate incident, even for a demon.
Tooe: You may look like a clever kid when you worry about things with a serious face, but that's just a misconception.
Rōka: Don't take things so seriously, athlete Kanbaru.
Rōka: And that's why I can become the Lord Demon.
Suruga: I wonder if there will come a day when I can sleep without duct tape wrapped around my arm.

After a 13-week delay, the five-episode series about Suruga Kanbaru will premiere in a marathon on August 16. It will then ship on two Blu-ray Disc/DVD volumes on September 24 and October 22. The limited first pressing of the first volume will bundle a bonus disc with the theme songs and background music, while the second volume will bundle a bonus disc with the complete full ending theme song.

The anime will debut first on the Tokyo MX TV station on August 16 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., followed by the BS11 channel and the Niconico streaming service later that evening. Instead of the Hanamonogatari anime itself, character commentaries from the earlier Blu-ray Disc and DVD releases premiered on television on May 31 and will run for five straight weeks. Fans voted for which character commentaries will air.

Michiko Neya (Shaman King's Tao Jun, The Familiar of Zero F's Aniesse) and Kana Asumi (Pretty Rhythm Aurora Dream's Aira, Nyaruko: Crawling with Love!'s titular character) will join the cast as Tooe Kanbaru and Rōka Numachi, respectively. Miyuki Sawashiro and Kaori Mizuhashi will return to play their characters Suruga Kanbaru and Ougi Oshino.

Tomoyuki Itamura is directing Hanamonogatari, while Akiyuki Shinbo is acting as chief director and series script supervisor along with Fuyashi Tou. Akio Watanabe is designing the characters based on VOFAN's illustrations for NisiOisin's original novel. Watanabe, Nobuhiro Sugiyama, and Taisuke Iwasaki are also serving as chief animation directors at SHAFT. Satoru Kousaki is handling the music.

The Monogatari Series Second Season anime began airing in Japan last July, and the original run of the series ended in December. Daisuki and Crunchyroll are streaming the series outside of Japan. Aniplex of America announced last June that it has acquired the rights to both Nekomonogatari (Black) and Monogatari Series Second Season.
