Aniplex of America announced at its live-streaming event on Thursday that it has acquired the rights to both the Nekomonogatari (Black) and Monogatari Series Second Season television anime series. Aniplex of America added that it will stream the Monogatari Series Second Season within hours of its Japanese debut when the show airs this summer. Additionally, Aniplex of America will stream Nekomonogatari (Black) this summer.
The four-episode Nekomonogatari (Black) television anime series, which adapts NisiOisin's novel of the same name, aired in Japan on December 31. Nisemonogatari director Akiyuki Shinbo returned as the anime's general director, and Nisemonogatari series director Tomoyuki Itamura directed the anime at the studio SHAFT. Shinbo and Fuyashi Tou handled the series scripts. Akio Watanabe again served as character designer and chief animation director.
The original novel contains the "Tsubasa Family" story, set between Kizumonogatari and Bakemonogatari, with the character Tsubasa Hanekawa.
The "second season" arc of the Monogatari series will cover the material from six volumes of the original light novel series in two cours or half a year.
Shinbo is directing the series and is acting as series script supervisor along with Tou. Watanabe is serving as character designer and chief animation director at SHAFT, and Satoru Kousaki is handling the music. The cast remains unchanged from Bakemonogatari and Nisemonogatari.
The anime is premiering in Japan in July.
