Japan Expo USA to Host Kimagure Orange Road's Izumi Matsumoto, Visual Art's/Key

Matsumoto's romantic comedy manga inspired TV anime, video anime, 2 films

Japan Expo USA will host Izumi Matsumoto, creator of the Kimagure Orange Road manga and anime, during its August 22-24 event in San Mateo, California.

Matsumoto's Kimagure Orange Road romantic comedy manga ran in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine from 1984 to 1987, and it inspired a television anime series, multiple original video anime volumes, and two movies. The story focuses on a love triangle between the protagonist Kyōsuke and his two friends Madoka and Hikaru. Digital Manga Publishing licensed the manga earlier this year.

Matsumoto attended Pacific Media Expo last year, Katsucon in 2012, and Anime Expo in 1994 and 2011.

Sekai Project also reported that visual novel producer Visual Arts' Key label will attend the convention as an exhibitor. Sekai Project recently posted a survey to gauge interest in localizing Key's titles in English.

Key has produced such visual novel franchises as Clannad, Kanon, Little Busters!, and Air — all of which inspired anime and manga adaptations.

Previously-announced guests for Japan Expo USA's Second Impact include screenplay writer Gen Urobuchi, Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka, and director Shinji Aramaki.
