Quick Reminder: Attack on Titan Live-Action in Australian and New Zealand Cinemas

posted on by Jon Hayward

The live-action adaptation of Attack on Titan has hit theaters across Australia and New Zealand and will continue its limited theatrical run until Wednesday the 2nd of September. Screenings are occurring at 36 cinemas in Queensland, Victoria, New South Wales, Tasmania, South Australia, Northern Territory, Canberra and Western Australia and a additional 17 theaters are showing the film in New Zealand.

Madman Entertainment has created a dedicated website for the film's theatrical release and you can view more information on Attack on Titan and where you can catch a screening of the film at www.attackontitanmovie.com.au.

Director Shinji Higuchi stated that, with the supervision of Attack on Titan manga creator Hajime Isayama, the story is based on the world and characters of the manga while incorporating new characters and new formidable enemies. Yuusuke Watanabe (Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, live-action Gantz, Gantz II: Perfect Answer, 20th Century Boys, Gatchaman) wrote the scripts. Film critic Tomohiro Machiyama, who is also friends with Isayama, worked on the scripts together with Isayama and Watanabe.

The band SEKAI NO OWARI is contributing the first and second films' theme songs "Anti-Hero" and "SOS," respectively.

The first movie opened in Japan on August 1, and the second movie, Attack on Titan: End of the World, will open on September 19. Madman will follow up this theatrical run with Attack on Titan: End of the World later this year.

Isayama's original Attack on Titan manga has inspired four spinoff manga, a 25-episode television anime version that aired in 2013, and two compilation films, the second of which will open in June. Additionally, a second season of the television anime series is slated to air in 2016. Isayama launched the series in Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine in 2009.

Kodansha Comics is publishing Isayama's original manga in North America. The company is also releasing three of the four spinoff manga, and the Attack on Titan Guidebooks: INSIDE & OUTSIDE. Vertical is publishing the Attack on Titan: Before the Fall and Attack on Titan: Kuklo Unbound light novels.

Madman Entertainment has streamed the anime adaptation of Attack on Titan through their screening room and you watch it right now on AnimeLab. Madman also released the series on DVD and Blu-ray last year.
