Discotek Licenses Eat-Man, Cosmo Warrior Zero, Gun Frontier Anime, Galaxy Railways OVA

posted on by Karen Ressler

Discotek Media announced on Facebook on Wednesday that it has licensed the Eat-Man, Eat-Man '98, Cosmo Warrior Zero, Gun Frontier and The Galaxy Railways: A Letter from the Abandoned Planet anime.

In addition, Discotek announced that it will release School Days on Blu-ray Disc on December 6 and the Yowamushi Pedal Grande Road sequel anime on DVD in January. Discotek released School Days on DVD in 2014. The company announced in 2014 that it had licensed both the first and the second anime series for Yowamushi Pedal, and released the first series in January 2016.

The original Eat-Man anime series from 1997 is slated for release on DVD on December 6. Like Akihito Yoshitomi's Eat-Man manga, the 12-episode anime series follows Bolt Crank, a man who can eat anything and reproduce it in his right hand.

Disctek plans to release Eat-Man '98 on DVD in January. Bandai Entertainment previously released the 12-episode series on DVD in 2005 with an English dub, but Discotek's release will be Japanese-only with English subtitles.

Discotek plans to release Cosmo Warrior Zero on DVD on December 20. The release will include both Japanese and English dub tracks.

Media Blasters released the 2001 series on DVD with an English dub in 2002 and 2003 and describes the story from original creator Leiji Matsumoto:

The time of freedom lawlessness in deep space is coming to a close. Men who have given up their souls to become robotic immortals have dominated Earth, and their cold grip is closing on the Sea of Stars.

Warrius Zero, a battle-weary admiral, lost his family and his reason for living in during the war for Earth. Now serving the mechanized victors, Zero carries out his orders without the will to resist. Then, he received one mission unlike any other.

Zero was commanded to travel to the farthest reaches of the universe to hunt down a single wanted man, a mysterious space pirate, once known to all as Captain Harlock and to Zero as his former best friend.

Discotek plans to release the 2002 anime Gun Frontier on DVD on December 20 with Japanese and English dub tracks. Media Blasters previously released the series with an English dub in 2003 and 2004 and describes the story:

It is a harsh and barren wasteland, where the weak aren't even allowed to dream. It is also a sacred land for true men, for there is no place a man can feel more alive. This is the Gun Frontier.

Sea Pirate Captain Harlock and the errant samurai, Tochiro arrive in the United States on the Western Frontier. Along with a mysterious woman they meet along the way, the two friends challenge sex rings, bandits, and corrupt sheriffs. They are searching for a lost clan of Japanese immigrants, and they will tear Gun Frontier from end to end until they find it.

Discotek will release the The Galaxy Railways: A Letter from the Abandoned Planet OVA on DVD in January, with a Blu-ray Disc release to follow. Crunchyroll recently added the anime streaming, and the series is also streaming on Viewster. Crunchyroll describes the story:

In the distant future, the planets are now connected with a massive galactic railway system. The Galaxy Express 999 has crash landed on a mysterious planet. On board are The Conductor, Killian, Maetel, and Tetsuro, a ten year-old street urchin with a heart of gold. Now it's up to the SDF Sirius Platoon to rescue them before the Herise Time Mystery—a rift in the deep axis of time and space—repeats.

The four-episode OVA bridges the story of The Galaxy Railways and Ginga Tetsudo Monogatari: Eien e no Bunkiten television anime, although it was released after the latter had already aired. The OVA debuted in December 2006.

Funimation released The Galaxy Railways anime on six DVD volumes from 2005 to 2006, and re-released it in box set collections in 2007, 2008, and 2014.
