Company plans home video, digital release of film with English subtitles, dub

North American media company Shout! Factory and Toei Animation announced on Tuesday that Shout! Factory has acquired the North American broadcast and home entertainment distribution rights to the first three anime films in the six-part Digimon Adventure tri. film series. Shout! Factory plans to release the films with both Japanese and English audio on DVD and Blu-ray Disc, and also digitally through electronic sell-through (EST) distribution.

Shout! Factory said it plans to release the first film, Digimon Adventure tri.- Chapter 1: Reunion, this year. The company describes the film:

DIGIMON ADVENTURE tri. — REUNION picks up when the beloved Digimon Adventure 2002 series ended. It's been six years since that summer adventure when Tai (now in high school) and the rest of the “DigiDestined” crossed over to the Digital World, and nearly three years since the frenzied final battles between warring factions. With the gate to the Digital World closed, time continues to pass, until the adventure “digi-volves” once again.

Shout! Factory's release of the first film will include the already-produced English dub that ran in theaters in the United States and Canada last year. Eleven Arts and Toei Animation had screened the English-dubbed version of the film in more than 300 theaters in the United States and Canada on September 15, with more screenings added later in the month.

Digimon Adventure tri.- Chapter 1: Reunion opened in Japan in November 2015. The second film, Digimon Adventure tri.- Chapter 2: Determination, opened in Japan on March 12. The third and most recent film, Digimon Adventure tri.- Chapter 3: Confession, opened in Japan on September 24.

Crunchyroll started streaming all three films on the same day they opened in Japan.

The fourth film in the project, titled Digimon Adventure tri. Sōshitsu (Loss), will open in Japan on February 25. The Digimon Adventure tri. project celebrates the 15th anniversary of Digimon Adventure (the first entry in the series).
