Berserk Manga Returns From Hiatus on December 22

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
Manga entered current hiatus in June

This year's 24th issue of Hakusensha's Young Animal magazine is revealing on Friday that Kentarō Miura will resume his Berserk manga in the magazine's first 2018 issue on December 22. The manga will have a color opening page.

The manga went back on hiatus earlier this year in June, with a planned resumption in winter.

Miura had resumed the manga in the seventh issue of Young Animal, which shipped on March 24. The manga had been running on a monthly schedule (Hakusensha publishes Young Animal twice a month).

The manga's previous hiatus lasted from September 2016 to March 2017.

The manga follows Guts, a superhumanly strong warrior who wields a large sword, as he wanders a dark medieval world filled with demons, corrupt and decadent nobles, and other horrors. Every night, he is assailed by demons, attracted to the curse branded on him after a traumatic event. He makes his way through the world on a quest to slay a former friend turned demon, who took everything away from him.

Hakusensha published the manga's 39th compiled volume (pictured at right) in Japan on June 23. Dark Horse Comics published the manga's 38th volume in English on July 5.

Hakusensha also published the first novel in the Berserk franchise, Berserk: Flame Dragon Knight, on June 23. Makoto Fukami wrote the novel, which will have an original story focusing on the character Grunbeld. Dark Horse will release the novel in English.
