Kanoko Sakurakoji's Black Bird Manga Gets New Chapter in April

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
Supernatural manga ran from 2007-2012, with stage play adaptation slated for end of March

The April issue of Shogakukan's Betsucomi magazine revealed on Wednesday that Kanoko Sakurakoji will pen a new one-shot chapter for the Black Bird manga in the magazine's next issue in April. The manga will have a color opening page, and will feature on the issue's front cover.

Viz Media published all volumes of the manga in North America, and it describes the story:

There is a world of myth and magic that intersects ours, and only a special few can see it. Misao Harada is one such person, and she wants nothing to do with magical realms. She just wants to have a normal high school life and maybe get a boyfriend.

All that changes one day when Misao is attacked by a demon. Her childhood friend Kyo suddenly returns to save her and tend to her cuts - with his tongue! It turns out Misao is the bride of prophecy, whose blood gives power to the demon clan who claims her. But most demons want to keep her power for themselves - by eating her! Now Misao is just trying to stay alive... and decide if she likes it when Kyo licks her wounds.

Sakurakoji launched the manga in Betsucomi in 2007, and ended it in December 2012 with 12 volumes. The manga is inspiring a stage play adaptation that will run at the Ginza Hakuhinkan Theater in Tokyo from March 27 to 31.

Viz Media also published Sakurakoji's two-volume Backstage Prince manga in North America.

Sakurakoji's Seirou Opera (Edo Brothel Opera) manga entered its climax last August. Sakurakoji launched the manga in Shogakukan's Betsucomi magazine in January 2015.
