Fuyumi Soryo's Cesare Manga Gets Stage Play in April 2020

Akinori Nakagawa stars in play of manga centering on Cesare Borgia

Kodansha revealed on June 14 that Fuyumi Soryo's CESARE - Il Creatore che ha distrutto historical manga is inspiring a stage play that will debut at Meijiza Theater in Tokyo in April 2020, with Akinori Nakagawa as a lead cast member. Yūna Koyama is directing the play, Kōichi Ogita is penning the script, and Ken Shima is composing the music.

The biographical work tells the story of Cesare Borgia. Motoaki Hara supervises the manga.

Soryo launched the manga in Morning in 2005, and Kodansha published the 11th and most recent volume in January 2015. The manga's 12th volume will ship on Friday. The manga had been on hiatus since October 2014, but Soryo resumed the manga in Morning last November. She was publishing the manga in the magazine once a month, with a plan to publish five chapters, until Soryo put the manga back on hiatus in March. The series is planned to return this fall.

Soryo published her Mars manga in Bessatsu Friend from 1996-2000, and Tokyopop published all 15 volumes of the series and the Mars Gaiden prequel in 2002-2004. The manga inspired a Taiwanese drama series in 2004-2005. A 10-episode Japanese live-action drama adaptation premiered in January 2016, and a film concluding the story premiered in June 2016.

Soryo also drew the manga ES (Eternal Sabbath), which Del Rey published in English. Comixology recently added the Mars manga with Kodansha Comics as publisher.
