I understand the need for a comforting, familiar story that won't exactly challenge or leave an impact on its viewers. After all, we all need our small comforts where we can find them these days.

Which also explains the popularity of these stories with the Japanese consumer base. Already Gatherer's Adventure JPN novel website boasts over 2.1 million copies sold since the series first released in 2017 (17 volumes so far).

(On a side note, Assassin's Status has sold over 1.6 million copies as of Aug 2025 since it first released at the end of 2017 (4 volumes as of the given date, 5 released in Sept 2025).

If this series actually calls attention to how cookie-cutter so many of these protags are, that would be a gag I appreciate.

Check out the beginning of Episode 3 for IQ3's response to that. Smile

I can see how it would be a slog if you hadn't watched any of the series it employs (how can you be a professional anime reviewer and not have watched at least 2/3 of the now 6 multiple-season titles (7 if you count Cautious Hero's cameo) on the roster?). But if you ever do catch up with those, it's great fun as a side dish.

Speaking of cookie cutter protags, check out the hilarious thumbnail for Mother's Basement's "The Problem With Isekai."

Regarding Isekai quartet,it's really doing a great job of getting people who only watched one or two shows from its line up to watch the other shows.

Now Inal happy, this is finally the season where the boring cookie cutter otome isekai gets called off on a similar ( if not as much) way to how Shounen Isekai gets too. My dad is a hero in particular did not get any brownie points just for being an oi ( thought it feels like the punch one did* but we'll, baby steps are still steps).

Why do you keep reminding me about The Executioner and Her Way of Life! Every time second season of "I was reincarnated as a slop with a unique slop, which made me slopier than slop" comes out, while Executioner does not, I clench my fist and do my best Joseph Joestar impression.

I feel the same way about Dark History as these guys seem to fee about Wild Last Boss.

I have written many middle school cringe fics (she’s in junior high writing these books, not high school). To have to remember them as an adult would be terrifying and I’d be much worse at it than our protagonist.

Every time Iana has to remember what she wrote and her mindset when she wrote it I laugh. There’s not a ton of big plot points, but our newest character seems to put even more of a dangerous twist on things.

I’m having a great time, unexpectedly since I generally cannot with isekai.

The only isekai I have time for these days is Gachiakuta.

What, it's not an isekai?

Rudo is a rejected outsider who is literally thrown into a different world where he discovers he has a special skill that makes him more powerful than regular skill users... Very Happy

Regarding this line about Dusk Beyond the End of the World "Yogure's been holding up my interest as the main enigma pulling Akira along. Aside from rocking trans pride at all times on her earrings, she gives the series a bit of kick it needs—with action that actually feels like it has an impact when compared to some of the other titles we've looked at."

I looked at the last few episodes and that's clearly pink, yellow and blue not pink, white and blue earrings. I dunno if that's a pride flag but it isn't the trans one.

It is one. Pink/yellow/blue's for pansexual pride.
