According the Korean film-centered news website MOVIST, Omniscient Reader: The Prophecy, the live-action movie based on the web novel and webtoon Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint, opened at No. 1 in the Korean box office. However, after selling 627,886 tickets in its first five days, its debut is being viewed as underwhelming. Despite topping the chart, the adaptation of one of the most famous web novels and webtoons is facing a mixed reception from both longtime fans and general audiences, according to MOVIST.

The film opened in Korea on July 23, and has earned the equivalent of US$4,558,862 as of Sunday. The film sold 427,358 tickets from Friday to Sunday across 1,221 screens, earning an equivalent of US$3,220,701.

The movie will open in North American theaters on August 1.

The film stars Hyo-seop Ahn as protagonist Dok-ja Kim, alongside Min-ho Lee, Nana, Seung-ho Shin, Soo-bin Chae, and Ji-Soo of Black Pink.

Another webtoon-based live-action movie, My Daughter is a Zombie, which held limited pre-release screenings ahead of its July 30 wide release, debuted at No. 10. The film has sold 29,892 tickets and earned the equivalent of US$211,402 as of Sunday.
