Anime Festival Asia Returns to Hong Kong in February 2026 After 7 Years

1st AFA event in Hong Kong since 2019

Singaporean events company Sozo announced on Saturday that its Anime Festival Asia (AFA) convention will return to Hong Kong with a new event at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center on February 14 and 15, 2026.

The convention previously held events in Hong Kong from 2017 to 2019, in collaboration with the C3 Japan Anime & Game Expo, making this the first AFA event in Hong Kong in seven years. The convention had a 2020 event planned, but canceled it in January 2020 amid the 2019-2020 protests against the extradition amendment to the Fugitive Offenders Ordinance in Hong Kong, making Sozo "unable to guarantee the safety of attendees, guests, exhibitors, and organizers."

The Anime Festival Asia conventions take place in Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, and Japan. The event is one of the largest anime and Japanese pop-culture conventions outside Japan. 2015's Anime Festival Asia in Singapore drew 90,669 visitors. Aside from Anime Festival Asia and its attached I Love Anisong label, Sozo also owns JLive Asia, and organizes the Japan Music Festival brand.
