WEBTOON Entertainment announced on September 25 that it will officially discontinue its Fan Translation Service on November 26 PDT, ending support for the community-based platform that allowed fans to translate webtoons into multiple languages.

According to WEBTOON, the decision was made after “careful consideration,” citing the growing difficulty of maintaining and evolving the service. The company said the move will allow it to focus resources on enhancing other core experiences for readers and creators.

After the shutdown date, all translation data and user information will be permanently deleted from WEBTOON's servers, with no backups retained. Users who wish to keep their translation work are advised to download their data from their profile pages before the service ends.

Launched to connect fans across languages, the Fan Translation Service has relied on volunteer translators for years, helping broaden WEBTOON's global readership. However, the company acknowledged that continuing the platform had become “unsustainable.”

Starting on November 27, the site and all associated user content will be inaccessible, including previously viewed or subscribed fan translations.
