The Click

April 21st - April 27th

It's almost hard to believe, really; just seven days and some hours ago prior, I was writing last week's edition of The Click. What good times those were, worthy of perhaps a flashback montage set to "As the Days Go By," by Daryl Braithwaite, or perhaps even David Bowie's "Under Pressure"; there were new episodes of shows like Bleach and Naruto, certain off-kilter shows like Shin Chan and Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad could also be viewed in their respective North American countries, and all in all, it was a simpler, and therefore better, time.

Which leads us to, unfortunately, this week, which just sucks in comparison. Oh sure, there are new episodes of practically everything, but it lacks that distinct and hazy layer of nostalgia that my admittedly iffy memory creates to delude myself that my best years are behind me! Nonetheless, I'm sure that given a few weeks time after they've aired, they'll all be great. Meanwhile, I'm going to curl up in my jammies and watch Voltron.

Eureka 7

Sunday April 22 1:00am - Episode 49 "Shout to the Top!" (Repeats Sun Apr 22 4:00am)

Eureka 7 is an odd show, simply put. Sleek-looking robots that surf through the air, and the barely-pubescent pilots that love them? Not to mention some of the wild plot details, such as the heavy dose of post-apocalyptic pseudo-science, special-ops intrigue, and even a vaguely middle eastern-looking race accused of terrorism. Somehow, all these elements come together and become quite compelling, that is if you're able to invest the time necessary to enjoy it. Eureka 7, despite its kid-friendly look and pastel palette, is a rather dense and dark series. Which is to say that these final episodes are great for everyone who have seen the previous 48, in their proper consecutive order. Otherwise, eh; I doubt the story of the destructive Scub Corals and such will do much for you.

In this episode, that go-getting somewhat-Soul-Reaper Ichigo fights for his life against the deadly Abarai Renji.

I can't quite get over the early-morning timeslot. This is a quiet and introspective series, with brief moments of surreal, Lewis Carol-inspired humor, aimed at a more sophisticated and older audience than, say, King of Bandit Jing, for which Kino's Journey is replacing. That said, if you've got ImaginAsianTV and TiVo... need I say more? This week sees Kino traveling to a strangely Biblical land, her hometown, and a cruel city reminiscent of ancient Rome.

Vash again reunites with the wayward priest Wolfwood, attempts to reunite two feudin' families, shacks up with some skyward friends, and again faces the deadly Gung-Ho Guns.
