The official website for the television anime adaptation of NisiOisin and Akira Akatsuki's Medaka Box school action comedy manga revealed more of the anime's cast, the opening and ending theme singers, and the premiere date on Monday. Emiri Katō will play Hansode Shiranui, Daisuke Namikawa will play Kouki Akune, and Ai Kayano will play Mogana Kikaijima. The anime will premiere on April 4.
Minami Kuribayashi will sing the opening theme song "Happy Crazy Box." Kuribayashi has sang theme songs for Mobile Suit Gundam AGE, Chrono Crusade, Infinite Stratos, Kurokami The Animation, and Carnival Phantasm, among others. Aki Toyosaki, who will star as Medaka Kurokami, will sing the ending theme song "Ohanabatake ni Tsuretette." Kuribayashi's opening single will be released on April 25, and Toyosaki's ending single will be released on May 9.
Shueisha's Jump Festa event had announced in December that Toyosaki (K-ON!, Toaru Kagaku no Railgun) will star as Medaka Kurokami and Yūki Ono (Kimi to Boku., Daily Lives of High School Boys) will play Zenkichi Hitoyoshi in the upcoming series.
Gainax is producing the adaptation while Shouji Saeki (Mahoromatic: Summer Special, This Ugly Yet Beautiful World, He Is My Master) is directing and editing the series scripts and Ikuo Kuwana (Street Fighter Alpha: Generations) is designing the characters. NisiOisin and Akatsuki launched the manga in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2009, and Shueisha will release the 14th compiled book volume on March 2.
The story follows Medaka, the strongest girl in Hanokiwa Academy, leads the school's student council. The student body can submit pleas for help, 24 hours a day and 365 days a year, into the suggestion box that Medaka installed. Together with council members Zenkichi, Akune, Kikaijima, she takes on the challenges in the school that include supernatural powers and near-constant battles.
