Latest Gundam show about plastic model building & fighting to debut on Monday

Anime studio Sunrise confirmed with ANN that the Gundam.info website will stream the latest Gundam television anime series, Gundam Build Fighters, in the United States and Canada as it airs in Japan. The weekly streaming will start this Monday, October 7, and the website will offer a detailed schedule soon.

The story is set in the near future when Gunpla Battles, competitions that pit Gundam plastic models against each other, have become popular worldwide in the "Second Gunpla Boom." Sei Iori, a first-year middle-school student and the only son of a model shop owner, is talented at building Gunpla, but inexperienced in the Gunpla Battles. He encounters a mysterious boy named Reiji who happens to be an accomplished Gundam Fighter. Together, they strive for the Gunpla Battle world championships.

Mikako Komatsu (Pretty Rhythm Rainbow Live, K) will play Sei Iori, a first year student at the middle school section of the Seifū Private Academy. As he is the son of the Iori Model Shop, he has enjoyed Gundam plastic models since he was young. His knowledge of Gundam and making Gundam models are far beyond an adult's. However, he is unfamilar when it comes to Gundam plastic model battles, and always gets eliminated in the first round of the championship. Sei's customized Gunpla is the Build Strike Gundam.

Sachi Kokuryu (Ginga Densetsu Weed, Cross Fight B-Daman) will play Reiji, a mysterious boy that Sei met in town. Reiji is pushy, selfish, quick to resort to violence, and doesn't know much about common sense in society. Although he was pulled into Gundam plastic model battles for the first time, he shows excellent talent in piloting.

Yui Ishikawa (Attack on Titan, Heroic Age) will play China Kōsaka, a first year student at the middle school section of the Seifū Private Academy, class president, and member of the art club. Her home is the restaurant Kōsaka. As she watches Sei get interested in Gundam plastic model battles, she herself becomes intrigued with the sport. She has a wise and reserved personality. Her chest is also “reserved.” The first Gunpla she ever made is the Beargguy III.

Takuya Satō will play Tatsuya Yūki, a third year student at the middle school section of the Seifū Private Academy and the student body president. He is the school idol who is also the president of the model club. He is a prodigy at producing Gundam plastic models and battling. He has such great ability that he even participated in the Gundam plastic model championship. His nickname is the "Crimson Comet," and his Gunpla of choice is the Zaku Amazing.

Minami Fujii will play Mao Yasaka, a Gundam plastic model builder from Kyoto. She has been taught how to create Gundam plastic models since she was young. She appears to be spacey due to her appearance and Kansai dialect, but she in fact has a hot fighting spirit in her heart. Shee is a good rival of Sei's. Her Gunpla is the Gundam X Maō.

Yūichi Nakamura (Guilty Crown, Zettai Karen Children) will play Ricardo Fellini, a regular competitor at the Gundam plastic model championship, and the representative for Italy. His other name is “Italy's Dandy Man.” After arriving in Japan after traveling around the entire world, he has a fateful meeting with Reiji. His hobby is searching for girls to hit on using Gundam plastic models, and he boasts that it has an 80% rate of success. His Gunpla is the Wing Gundam Fenice.

Kotono Mitsuishi (Sailor Moon, Kaleido Star) will play Rinko Iori, Sei's mother and the owner of the Iori Model Shop. Even though she is the owner, she is not very knowledgeable about plastic models, and relies on her son for advice about them. Her specialty is cooking, and her best dish is stir-fried vegetables.

Takeshi Iori is Sei's father and a two-time runner-up in the Gunpla Battle world championships. He leaves the Iori model shop in the care of his wife and son and travels the world to promote Gunpla.

The anime's official website also announced the theme song artists on Saturday. Back-On will perform the opening theme song "Nibun no Ichi," and Airi will contribute the ending theme song "Imagination > Reality."

Kenji Nagasaki (No. 6) is drecting off scripts supervised by Yousuke Kuroda (Gundam 00). Kenichi Ohnuki (Mobile Suit Gundam Seed C.E.73: Stargazer, Haruka: Beyond the Stream of Time – A Tale of the Eight Guardians, Garzey's Wing) is designing the characters in collaboration with Suzuhito Yasuda (Yozakura Quartet, Durarara!!, Devil Survivor 2 The Animation). The mecha designer roster includes Kunio Okawara, Junichi Akutsu, Junya Ishigaki, Kanetake Ebikawa, and Kenji Teraoka.
