Square Enix, TBS TV Collaborate to Develop New, Original IP Game

Square Enix and TBS TV announced on Wednesday their collaboration to develop a new and original IP (intellectual property) game. The two companies stated that they will bring together their experiences and strengths that they have cultivated in their own fields to deliver a new gaming experience in Japan and overseas. There were no other game details revealed.

Square Enix is mostly known for its Final Fantasy game franchise. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the latest game in the franchise launched worldwide in February 2024 on two discs for PlayStation 5. The game released on Steam and Epic Games Store on PC on January 23. The company is also known for its Dragon Quest series. "HD-2D" remakes for Dragon Quest I & II will launch this year for Nintendo Switch, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and Windows.

The Tokyo Broadcasting System established TBS Games in July 2023, as part of the company's goal to grow its global content brand and pioneer in digital content. TBS Games has the focus of creating new game IPs.
