Indian Consumers Report Unauthorized Resales of PlayStation 5 Consoles

posted on by Adriana Hazra

IGN India reported on Saturday that Indian consumers have been reporting unauthorized resellers for trying to sell PlayStation 5 consoles at an elevated price on online marketplaces such as OLX.

Sony made a statement to IGN India regarding unauthorized resales of the console:

We have taken serious note of the feedback of our patrons that have been made on our social media handles and reportedly on other platforms. We sincerely expect that the third-party retail partners operate in compliance of the legal frame work of our country and follow ethical business practices. We have ‘zero tolerance policy’ for any practices that are inconsistent to the afore-said. We have taken steps, as deemed appropriate and available with company including but not limited to discontinuing our association with such channel partners.

Pre-orders for the PlayStation 5 console went live on January 12 at 12:00 p.m. IST and were sold out within minutes. The console officially launched in India on February 2.

The PlayStation 5 is priced at ₹49,990, and the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition (which does not include the disc slot) is priced at ₹39,990 in India.
