Square Enix Reveals Drakengard 3 RPG & Its Female Leads

1st game in action RPG franchise in 8 years to reunite director, designer, composer

Game developer Square Enix is unveiling its Drag-on Dragoon 3 (Drakengard 3) fantasy action role-playing game in Weekly Famitsu magazine this week. The game features two sisters named Zero and One with opposite personalities. The violent, pink-eyed Zero has a prosthetic arm and a flower growing from her right eye. The red-eyed One is intellectual with a strong sense of justice. Both are "Utautai" — "goddesses" who descended upon the war-fraught world, wielding magical powers and manipulating music.

The game is being produced by Takamasa Shiba (Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a Darklord). Drag-on Dragoon veteran Tarō Yokō is returning to direct the game and write the scenario. Kimihiko Fujisaka (Drag-on Dragoon, Last Story) is designing the characters and monaca's Keiichi Okabe (Tekken, Katamari Damacy) is composing the music.

The sequel is the first in the franchise since Drag-on Dragoon 2: Fūin no Aka, Haitoku no Kuro (Drakengard 2) was released for the PlayStation 2 in 2005. The sequel is being produced by Japanese developer ACCESS Games, the studio behind Sengoku Basara: Battle Heroes for the PlayStation Portable and The Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces for Wii. Square Enix renewed its trademark for Dragon-on Dragoon in December.

Drag-on Dragoon 3 is slated for release this year.
