I wonder if the anime world had something equivalent to Cartoon All-Stars to the Rescue (which you can watch on YT here)? Has there been any history of anime or licensed anime characters being used to fight and raise awareness of drug abuse in that same manner? Has Japan ever did a anime equivalent of Cartoon All-Stars to the Rescue for anti-Drug PSA, or something like that? I would like to know and see that for myself because I can't think of another cartoon like that, and I don't see anything like this for anime.
Speaking of Cartoon All-Stars to the Rescue, it was shown in Central and South America (dubbed in Spanish of course), it was shown in Europe (dubbed in various European languages of course), and I don't think this was shown in Asia AFAIK. But I'm kind of surprised that this particular animated special didn't get an anime remake in Japan where they could replace Bugs Bunny, Garfield, Muppet Babies, Smurfs with iconic anime characters like Goku, Astro Boy, and other iconic anime characters in that same manner. Oh, and reminder that in 2016, Sailor Moon was used to fight STDs and also was used in sex education too. I'm kind of surprised you forgot to include that in the discussion. Thanks for the tip on the cool anime, I love when anime looks at the societal affects of sex culture, it makes me feel like the fan service is meaningful in a way, even though an image is an image context changes the perception and feeling big brained about censorship and society makes enjoying the sex comedy even better!
Thanks for writing about this and while I won't derail the topic by going into a huge rant on the UK laws everyone should know about them. It isn't just porn, 13+ websites like Spotify and YouTube may require ID checks in the UK to make sure children aren't exposed to teen content, which means ANYONE can be made to give up the personal info or be barred from the internet. It's a terrible precedent to set and I'm glad people already seem aware and mad. |

I want to make that correction, I found out via Wikipedia and IMDB that the cartoon special was shown in Japan in 1991 with introduction by the late emperor Akihito. So I apologize for this misinformation. But still, I'm kind of surprised that Japan didn't remake this cartoon special into an anime special for the Japanese market on the same level as the American Sailor Moon cartoon/live-action hybrid as in adapt the basic plot/storyline from the American cartoon (as in change Corey and Michael from white to Japanese and changing their name to Japanese one) and replace all the American cartoon characters with iconic anime characters with Goku, Arale (from Dr. Slump), Astro Boy, Ranma Saotome, or any other popular anime characters that came out in Japan in that same time period. Cartoon Research has a backstory article on this cartoon special right here. |

Nukitashi can just as easily be seen from a conservative perspective. Sexual liberation is a left wing desire, while saving yourself for a meaningful relationship is a right wing value.

I have to admit seeing a think piece on Nukitashi of all things was kind of funny especially given where the game ends up going with it's characters and story.
I find the anime adaption to be kinda mid. It's really rushed and they skip a ton of scenes... I wonder if they're planning to adapt the sequel too? Would definitely recommend people check out the game if they liked the show. Eroge adaptions are usually pretty mediocre since it's impossible to capture the original VN's production quality and story strengths and this adaption is no different. . |

Have seen neither anime but added them to the list by the top. I come to complain about something I haven't seen. Nukitashi's protagonist being in the "Less physical intimacy for me, thanks." camp soouunds like the easy, basic/mid protag snooze choice that so many anime make. It'd be a lot spicier and more interesting if the protagonist could be respectable and thirsty instead of going for the shy crowd like hordes of shows are doing and which anime has always done with the super shy/useless at intimacy male lead.
Would guess there's some thought behind him that he is the novel one--screenshots say he thinks he's a minority--but this just sounds like main character syndrome. In which the individuals think they're less or more but really they're just not seeing the people around them. Other thought I would guess behind his inception is closely related to the basic/snooze factor: It's much easier to write the abstaining character than the thirsty one because we are programmed to think lust is more wrong than less lust, so his being the way he is is much comfier on viewers in every way unless one seeks novelty or shall I say at this point, quality. It isn't just him with main character syndrome, it is everybody in some way and many in this way; and those many will think, "Ah yes, I too, am unique for not wanting sex daily with strangers." So it sounds like Nukitashi gave up from the beginning with its lead. But, as this is something as anime viewers we're all used to, I'll still try it; as with many anime, it could have value despite its basic male MC. |

I feel like that's pretty common in h games - at least the ones I've played. A lot of the time giving into your temptations and trying to get sex scenes earns you a bad ending. Even if it's consensual, normal sex it can have a habit of coming back to bite you later on Despite the genre's reputation you seem to be rewarded the most by abstaining from sex until the end and you end up with the girl you choose (the best routes usually being the childhood friend) Again, maybe that's just the ones I've played. There's obviously notable exceptions to this like Rance. I'm not really one to look to deeply into nukige myself but it's interesting to see how some people have read the series and characters. A show where the heroes are all virgins and proud of being virgins and wanting to keep their virginity until they find a meaningful relationship and all the villains are promoting casual sex and framing it as sexual liberation and a net good for society can certainly be read a certain way or like some abstinence PSA . |

The whole reason the MC is like that is because there are already countless protagonists like that in the nukige visual novel genre that Nukitashi (being a visual novel itself) is riffing on. Having the MC be the exact opposite of those kinds of protagonists is part of the whole point of it all. |

So I've browsed the site on and off for years, but decided to make an account since funnily enough ANN article comments sections seems like the best place to actually have discussions about Nukitashi.
I'm biased since I finished all 3 of Qruppo's visual novels already so I've experienced the entire ride so I'm willing to overlook some of the concessions they made for the limited runtime versus a roughly 40 hour VN, but some of the decisions are rather smart. (Nanase's introduction turning her into someone stealing a virgin away instead of being a character you run into a few times bragging about their fake sexual antics before finding out she's also a sex-dodger) Now one of the bigger things when something goes from VN format into animated format is losing most if not all of the main character's internal monologue, and this unfortunately is something that is rather unavoidable when bringing stuff from one format that allows for lengthy internal monologues and one that doesn't, since even what people consider the best VN adaptations still have to deal with this decision, and I totally agree on people's perceptions of Junnosuke having "main character syndrome" with no other depth just based on what's occurred in the anime, and your reads on his character are totally in-line with what you've experienced so far. (Something like the reveal about being bullied for his dick happens way later after they've already established a rapport between the main cast, but again, VN events cut down to fit an 11 episode runtime, stuff is gonna get pushed ahead or swapped around.) I have no idea how well the anime will represent where Nukitashi actually takes its story since that's a completely unknown factor because of the runtime, but I hope they can manage to land the emotional plot beats that made me love the VN and its characters. I've been following the production pretty fervently since it first got announced and I think the staff passion is there, even if it's clearly not a high budget production, at least from the ones who publicly post about it on social media like the character designer and the assortment of returning VAs/suspiciously new VAs who are voicing major characters. I feel much more positive about this as a fan of the original than something like Summer Pockets or 9-Nine for stuff that's airing this season still, or to go a little further back something that was absolutely devastating was the Muv-Luv Alternative adaptation. (Graphinica did great work on the TSFs, at least.) I guess to end this probably awfully formatted rambling post I want to give a huge shoutout to whoever decided in layouts that when they're doing side-profiles of Junnosuke they're not erasing the glasses to keep his eyes visible and are instead laying them out in such a way that you don't need to erase the glasses to keep them visible. I see you and you are appreciated. |

Fun fact, Shimoneta 10'th anniversary! Nukitashi looks like a blast too. Everyone can just forget World's End Harem though, that was a "one and done" and not very fun, just dull and forgettable and not to be compared to the other two. Shimoneta, on the other hand, has bunches of memorable moments and characters. Let's not forget Anna and her "love nectar" cookies (and hydration drink!)....

I didn't know about Nukitashi until know but I'm very interested. I'm confused about the title refering to a flat-chested person in first person if the protagonist is a guy though.
Also I searched for OceanVeil but all I found are articles talking about it, so I guess it's not aviable in my region. Cool cool.
I haven't seen it but protecting sexual minorities is the last thing conservatives want. Also I don't think saving yourself is a strictly conservative value, I think a lot of people want their first time to be with someone special, conservatives are just annoying about it |

Yeah, I have known several non conservative people that want to save their first time for a spouse or at least a partner they really love, the conservative part is think it should be a societal norm and people should be shamed for not doing that. Wanting to save yourself personally but not thinking premarital sex is a blight on public morals isn't conservative in the least. |

The "sexual minorities" being talked about here is the main character's little sister who is a brocon and wants to have sex with him and even suggests they make it a group affair to make it more interesting. She's also best girl. |
