| Quote: | | The final volume, in particular, feels as if it has twice as much plot crammed into its pages as the preceding four, and I wonder if the author was forced to wrap things up prematurely? |
Correct. It was announced that it would be cancelled, leaving the author to suddenly have to wrap the story up.
It really is a shame, but not too surprising. I absolutely love love love the artwork and the subject matter of angels and demons illustrated in this particular manner is my jam, but the storytelling always felt like it was overly melodramatic to a fault, failing to establish enough of characters to truly care for their struggles before moving onto the next development. I felt this way after just volume one and the feeling permeated across the story. I think the author is fantastic at illustrating their story, but less so at telling one. I believe the ballet manga is formatted more to the author's strengths, being a pseudo artbook, so I'm excited for it. Future endeavors might benefit from having BOMHAT work with an established writer, but I will still be a fan and continue buying their manga regardless. <3
Thank you for the review!
