Marine Biology Exhibit Makes Sea Creatures Look Like Mini-Monsters

The Aqua Museum at Yokohama Hakkeijima Sea Paradise, an island aquatic theme park, will hold an exhibit on miniature crustaceans it calls "Micro-Monsters." Almost too small to be seen with the naked eye and growing to 3/4 of an inch (2 centimeters) at most in length, they are related to more familiar shelled animals like crabs, lobsters and shrimp, but dwell near the seafloor, far out of range of the human gaze.
To emphasize the differences between these tiny creatures, the exhibit is drawing them as miniature monsters, almost like something out of Pokémon or Digimon. To explore them more closely, the exhibit also lets visitors examine them with the microscope mode of digital cameras. Videos and expert analysis will also be provided.

The exhibit opens on May 16 and lasts until July 12. It will be held in the Aqua Museum's 1st Floor (Jinbee Hall) and produced with the cooperation of the University of Tokyo's Misaki Marine Biological Station.
