Seminar in Kyoto to Examine Anime's Regional Promotion Potential

posted on by Eric Stimson
The Eccentric Family used as example

In January, The Eccentric Family was designated as Kyoto's Special Goodwill Ambassador in recognition of the part it has played in drumming up interest in the city. (The anime takes place in an alternate version of Kyoto with tanuki and the mythical Japanese creatures, the tengū.) On March 14, the quirky anime will be featured in a business seminar at the Kyoto International Manga Museum that will explore how other regions and towns can use anime to their commercial advantage.

The CrossKYOTO Business Seminar: Character × Igyōshu (different kinds of businesses) will explain how Kyoto incorporated the spirit of The Eccentric Family into its tourism promotion and advise other interested governments in the merchandise and events to offer anime fans. P.A. Works, the studio behind The Eccentric Family and an upcoming anime about rural revival, Sakura Quest, will attend, as will Kyoto's tourism promotion office. Attendance will be limited to 70 guests; admission is free, but guests must first pre-register here.

P.A. Works will have a booth at Anime Expo in Los Angeles this year (as it did last year) as part of an effort to promote its works more assertively overseas. In addition, The Eccentric Family will get a second season in April.
