17-Year-Old Girl Wins Anisong Stars Voice Actor Competition

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

Lantis, Amuse, Bandai Visual, and Bandai Namco Live Creative held the final judging for the Anisong Stars voice actor artist audition contest in Tokyo on Saturday. Competing against 24 finalists, 17-year-old Akane Kumada won the Grand Prix competition.

Kumada's debut as a voice actress and singer is slated for 2018. A total of 4,846 people applied to participate in the contest. The goal of the auditions was to discover a voice actor artist who can use anime as a means to participate in activities around the world.

The competition's judges were composer and Elements Garden founding member Noriyasu Agematsu, singer-songwriter and JAM Project leader Hironobu Kageyama, voice actor Kenichi Suzumura, Flow co-founder and member Take, and singer-songwriter Aki Hata.

Lantis, Sony Music Entertainment Japan Inc., Amuse, Bandai Visual, Bandai Namco Live Creative, and Anime Consortium Japan also held the Anisong World Matsuri at Otakon earlier this month. JAM Project, Flow, Yousei Teikoku, and T.M. Revolution all performed at the event. The festival event debuted at Los Angeles' Anime Expo 2016.
