Love Live! Summer Festival in Numazu Cancelled Due to Typhoon

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

This year's Love Live! Sunshine!! stage event and fireworks show in Numazu is cancelled, not for bad behavior, but because Mother Nature is acting up again.

Staff wrote on the official website for the Love Live! Sunshine!! on Friday that the planned 71st Numazu Summer Festival on the Kano river is cancelled thanks to the approach of Typhoon 12. The festival was planned to kick off on Saturday with a live broadcast of the Aqours idols. Organizers currently have no plans to hold the event on a new date.

Typhoon 12, also known as Typhoon Jongdari, is expected to travel against Japan's southern coast and cause unsafe conditions over the weekend. The typhoon has garnered enough power to classify as a Category 2 hurricane with wind speeds of approximately 84mph (135km/h).

Japan has suffered an unfortunate series of natural disasters this summer. Large scale evacuations took place in areas around Hiroshima after heavy rainfall caused wide-scale flooding that killed 200 citizens and displaced thousands.

Just last week, a heatwave struck southern areas and temperatures rose to a high of 106F (41.1C) in Kumagaya and 105.4F (40.8C) in the Greater Tokyo Area. The all-time high temperatures were declared a natural disaster. Approximately 30,000 were hospitalized this month alone for heat-related illnesses and estimates attribute hundreds of deaths to the soaring temperatures.
