CyberConnect2 Exhibit Highlights .hack Series, Tail Concerto, Asura's Wrath

posted on by Kim Morrissy

Game development studio CyberConnect2 is currently holding an exhibit at the Sasayuri Cafe in Nishi-Ogikubo showcasing important games in their history. This includes numerous installments in the .hack media mix, Tail Concerto and its spiritual successor Solatorobo: Red the Hunter, and Asura's Wrath.

In addition to exhibiting key artwork from the various exhibits, artbooks will be sold at the cafe storefront. The exhibit will run from August 9-27.

Some samples of the artwork on exhibit are shown below:

CyberConnect2 is also hosting talk shows and signing events related to their properties. CyberConnect2 president Hiroshi Matsuyama gave presentations about the company's history and behind-the-scenes aspects of their game development. Anime News Network was invited to a talk show Matsuyama gave with animation director Shōjirō Nishimi concerning the development of the animated opening sequence of .hack//Link.

.hack//Link is a 2010 action role-playing game developed for the PlayStation Portable. The game was released exclusively in Japan but has a cult fanbase overseas. Shōjirō Nishimi, who is best known for his work on Tekkonkinkreet as chief animation director and character designer, directed the .hack//Link opening animation. The opening is widely regarded as one of the highlights of the game.

The talk show was very amusing, as Nishimi claimed not to remember any of the work he actually did on the opening. Matsuyama also revealed that CyberConnect2 commissioned Studio 4℃ to produce the opening without instruction or funds from Bandai Namco Games (currently Bandai Namco Entertainment), the publisher of the .hack games).

The Sasayuri cafe regularly holds animation-related exhibits and talk shows. Anime News Network has previously covered Sasayuri cafe's exhibit of Maquia animator Toshiyuki Inoue.
