October will mark the 20th anniversary of the first anime adaptation of Kaishaku's Steel Angel Kurumi manga aired in Japan. The alternate history series takes place in Japan's Taishō era (1912–1926) where one scientist created an advanced humanoid weapon the Steel Angel. His creation falls into the hands of a priest in training and propels him into a dangerous face-off with the Imperial Army.
Also it's a rom-com.
COSPA is celebrating the series' 20th anniversary with a new line-up of merchandise. The items include a new wall scroll and tote bag featuring Kurumi. An event with Kurumi's voice actress Atsuko Enomoto will be held at Gee! Store Akiba September 13.
The Steel Angel Kurumi franchise includes the manga released in part by the now defunct ADV Manga, the Steel Angel Kurumi and Steel Angel Kurumi 2 anime series, the Steel Angel Kurumi Encore and Steel Angel Kurumi Zero OAVs, and the Steel Angel Kurumi Pure live-action series. ADV released most of the anime series in the U.S.
