My Daughter is a Zombie Webtoon Sees Surge in Views Ahead of Live-Action Film's Release
posted on by Wonhee Cho

Ahead of the Korean theatrical release of the live-action film My Daughter is a Zombie, readers are returning to the original webtoon in large numbers.
Naver WEBTOON revealed on Wednesday that from May 21 to June 3 — the two weeks following the film's trailer release — paid binge-read sessions for My Daughter is a Zombie jumped more than ninefold compared to the previous two-week period. Overall viewership also increased fivefold. The binge-read feature allows users to read all episodes freely for one hour after paying a fixed fee, and is often used by returning fans revisiting completed series.
My Daughter is a Zombie became popular for blending zombie horror with family-oriented humor and emotion. Although the series ended five years ago, the upcoming film adaptation, slated to premiere in Korean theaters on July 30, has reignited interest.
A release of the movie for North America has not yet been confirmed.
The original webtoon, drawn by Yun-Chang Lee, was serialized on Naver WEBTOON between 2018 and 2020.
The story of the original webtoon reads:
One year after an unprecedented zombie attack that killed hundreds of thousands, South Korea has finally been declared zombie-free. But Jeonghwan holds a secret: his daughter is the last zombie left on earth. When her cravings are satisfied and her violent tendencies die down, it almost seems like there's hope for her to have a normal life. But how long can he keep Su-ah a secret from everyone else?
Fans can read the official English version of the webtoon on WEBTOON.
