Square Enix announced during a Star Ocean anamnesis live streaming program that it will release Star Ocean: Till the End of Time Director's Cut for the PlayStation 4. The game will be an HD remaster of tri-Ace's PlayStation 2 game of the same name. In the below video, staff members begin announcing the game around the 1:12:05 mark and show a comparison of the HD and original versions.

The digital-only release will feature the same content and gameplay as the original release with enhanced graphics. Sony Interactive Entertainment's HD emulator technology enhanced the game. The upcoming game will include the share function, trophy support, remote play, and other features.

tri-Ace's original Star Ocean: Till the End of Time (Star Ocean 3) role-playing game shipped for PlayStation 2 in Japan in 2003. The Director's Cut version with additional features shipped worldwide in 2004.

Square Enix released tri-Ace's Star Ocean anamnesis iOS and Android game in Japan on December 7. The action battle game allows players to control characters from other installments in the Star Ocean franchise. It is the first game in the franchise to offer a four-player mulitplayer option.

tri-Ace and Enix released the first Star Ocean game for the Super Famicom in 1996. The latest main game in the franchise, Star Ocean 5: Integrity and Faithlessness, shipped in Japan on March 31 for the PlayStation 4 and for the PlayStation 3 on April 28. Square Enix released the game in the United States only for PlayStation 4 on June 28.

The video game series inspired Mayumi Azuma's Star Ocean: The Second Story manga in 1998 and its 2001 television anime Star Ocean EX. Geneon released the anime in North America. Aoi Mizuki's Star Ocean: Blue Sphere manga launched in 2002, and Akira Kanda debuted the Star Ocean: Till the End of Time manga in 2003.
