Compilation special for 1st season streams today

Media distribution service Crunchyroll announced on Thursday that it will stream the second season of the new Berserk anime, as well as the compilation special for the first season. The special will premiere at 7:00 p.m. EDT on Thursday. Like the first season, both the special and the second season will be available worldwide outside of Asia, New Zealand, and Australia.

The second season will premiere on WOWOW on April 7 at 10:00 p.m. in Japan, and in the following weeks, the previous week's episode will air at 10:00 p.m., with new episodes airing at 10:30 p.m. MBS and TBS will air the premiere on April 7 at 26:40 and 26:25, respectively (effectively April 8 at 2:40 a.m. and 2:25 a.m., respectively), while BS-TBS will air the premiere on April 8 at 24:30 (effectively April 9 at 12:30 a.m.).

Crunchyroll describes the story:

Spurred by the flame raging in his heart, the Black Swordsman Guts continues his seemingly endless quest for revenge. Standing in his path are heinous outlaws, delusional evil spirits, and a devout child of god. Even as it chips away at his life, Guts continues to fight his enemies, who wield repulsive and inhumane power, with nary but his body and sword—his strength as a human. What lies at the end of his travels? The answer is shrouded in the "night." Strain your eyes and stare into the dark!

The premiere will show the first two episodes of the new arc (episodes 13-14).

The anime adapts Kentarou Miura's dark fantasy manga of the same name. Miura himself is serving as executive supervisor for the series. Shin Itagaki (Basquash!, Ben-To, Teekyū) is directing the anime. Makoto Fukami (Psycho-Pass, Ōsama-tachi no Viking, Yuruyuri San Hai!) is supervising the series scripts in collaboration with Takashi Yamashita (Cencoroll). Hisashi Abe (Pet Shop of Horrors, Gunslinger Girl, Chobits) is designing the characters. Shiro Sagisu (Berserk films, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Megazone 23) is composing the music. LIDEN FILMS is credited for production, while GEMBA and Millepensee are credited for animation production.

9mm Parabellum Bullet, who sang the previous arc's opening song, are again performing this arc's opening song "Sacrifice." Similarly, the previous arc's ending theme song singer Nagi Yanagi is collaborating with Yoshino Nanjō to perform the ending theme song "Issai wa Monogatari" (Everything is the Story). Susumu Hirasawa's "Hai yo" and "Ash Crow" songs return as insert songs for the anime.

The new television anime project premiered in Japan in July 2016, and aired for 12 episodes. Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired and plans to release the series on Blu-ray Disc and DVD.
