Heavy Object and Snow White With The Red Hair Released Monday

On Monday March 20, Funimation will release the first part of Heavy Object as a Blu-ray. Funimation has described the story:

In the future, warfare has been revolutionized by the invention of mechanical weapons called “Objects.” These Objects are overwhelmingly powerful, rendering traditional weapons like guns, tanks and fighter jets completely useless. Qwenthur is an un-athletic, but smart soldier who aims to work as an Object mechanic. Stationed at an Alaskan Object base, he meets Milinda, a stoic but beautiful Elite Soldier who pilots her own Object. As they learn to support each other in battle, Qwenthur begins to uncover the grim secret behind the Heavy Objects.

Takashi Watanabe (Shakugan no Shana, Freezing) is directing the anime at J.C. Staff (Toradora!, Kaichō wa Maid-sama!). Kazuma Kamachi (Toaru Majutsu no Index, Toaru Kagaku no Railgun) wrote the original story.

Anime Limited is releasing the trilogy of cinema films based on the original Mobile Suit Gundam TV series as a Blu-ray box-set. This set will be limited to 500 copies available exclusively from the AllTheAnime website. The Mobile Suit Gundam - The Movie Trilogy consists of Mobile Suit Gundam I, Mobile Suit Gundam II: Soldiers of Sorrow and Mobile Suit Gundam III: Encounters in Space, all in Japanese only.

Manga Entertainment is releasing films from the Ghost in the Shell franchise. Firstly, it will release the 1995 cinema version of Ghost in the Shell, directed by Mamoru Oshii, based on the original manga by Masumune Shirow. The film will be released as a Blu-ray, a DVD and also as a Steelbook (pictured right). In the film, cyborg agent Major Kusanagi investigates the legendary hacker the Puppet Master.

Manga Entertainment is also releasing a double-pack containing Ghost in the Shell and Ghost in the Shell: Innocence. It will be released on both Blu-ray and DVD.

Manga Entertainment is also releasing Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex: Solid State Society. The film is part of the Stand Alone Complex continuity, following the two seasons of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. It is directed by the series director, Kenji Kamiyama.

In the film, it has been two years since Motoko Kusanagi left Section 9. Togusa is now the new leader of the team, that has considerably increased its appointed personnel. The expanded new Section 9 confronts a rash of complicated incidents, and investigations reveal that an ultra-wizard hacker nicknamed the "Puppet Master" is behind the entire series of events.

Manga Entertainment is additionally releasing Blu-ray and DVD editions of the two feature-length compilations of the Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex TV series. These are Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex - The Laughing Man (compiled from the first TV season) and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex - Individual Eleven.
