Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux Game Video Compares Dungeon Graphics Between Original & Remake

posted on by Karen Ressler
Remake of Nintendo DS game ships on October 26 in Japan, in early 2018 in N. America

The official Twitter account for the Shin Megami Tensei game series posted a video comparing the dungeon exploration graphics between the original Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Nintendo DS game and the upcoming Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux remake for Nintendo 3DS. Scenes from the original are labelled in the top left corner in red, while scenes from the remake are denoted in blue.

The remake is slated for October 26 in Japan, and Atlus USA will release the game in North America in early 2018.

Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux will use the original game as a base while also adding original content, and the ability to save at any time even while exploring dungeons. The game adds a new ending, and an original character Alex (seen in visual right) voiced by Megumi Han.

The original game shipped for the Nintendo DS in Japan in 2009, and in North America in 2010. In the game's story, a dimensional portal opens in Antarctica, consuming anything it touches and expanding to potentially threaten the Earth. The United Nations sends a task force to investigate the nature of the phenomenon. The player creates and names a character and explores dungeons within the portal. Like many games in the Shin Megami Tensei series, the player explores the dungeons in a first-person perspective, and may bargain with demons to recruit them. The original game had three possible endings.
