Live-Action Sensei Kunshu Film's Theme Song is TWICE's Cover of The Jackson 5 Song

Cover of "I Want You Back" previewed in new trailer, teaser videos for August 1 film

The official website for the live-action film adaptation of Momoko Kōda's Sensei Kunshu (Teacher Monarch) manga began streaming a new trailer and teaser video for the film on May 30. The videos reveal and preview the film's theme song "I Want You Back," a cover of The Jackson 5 song of the same name, by Korean pop group TWICE.

The film opens in Japan on August 1.

The above poster visual is intended to appear like a cover for Bessatsu Margaret, the magazine where Sensei Kunshu was serialized.

Ryōma Takeuchi (below left) will play the teacher Yoshitaka Hiromitsu and actress Minami Hamabe (below right) will play the female lead Ayuha Samaru.

The additional cast includes:

  • Taiki Satō as Kotake Sawada, Ayuha's childhood friend who has feelings for her
  • Rina Kawaei as Aoi Nakamura, Ayuha's best friend
  • Yūma Yamoto as Kakeshi, Aoi's boyfriend
  • Yua Shinkawa as Akika Saimon, Yoshitaka's childhood friend, and a famous pianist
  • Riko Fukumoto as Kaho, Ayuha's classmate who has Yoshitaka in her sights
  • Yuki Sasō as Shino, Ayuha's classmate who makes moves on Yoshitaka

Sensei Kunshu is a romantic comedy about the straightforward high school girl Ayuha Samaru and her relationship with her cool-headed teacher Yoshitaka Hiromitsu. Yoshitaka also happens to be the older brother of Kōsuke Hiromitsu from Kōda's previous manga, Heroine Shikkaku (No Longer Heroine).

Kōda drew the Sensei Kunshu manga in Shueisha's Bessatsu Margaret magazine from 2013 to 2017. Shueisha shipped the 13th and final compiled volume last August.

Heroine Shikkaku also inspired a live-action film adaptation that screened in Japanese theaters in September 2015.
