Ohara debuts as Rikyū's young-looking mother on Monday

The official Twitter account for Holmes of Kyoto, the television anime of Mai Mochizuki's Holmes at Kyoto Teramachi Sanjō (Kyōto Teramachi Sanjō no Holmes) mystery novel series, announced on Monday that Sayaka Ohara will play Yoshie Takiyama, Rikyū's mother and a friend of Seiji. Though young-looking, she is actually 40 years old. Seiji's love of beautiful things leads him to be careful around Yoshie. The character will debut in the anime's sixth episode on Monday.

The anime premiered on July 9. Crunchyroll is streaming the series as it airs in Japan.

Noriyoshi Sasaki (Ojisan to Marshmallow, My Wife is the Student Council President+!, King's Game The Animation) is directing the anime at Seven. Kenichi Yamashita (Ishida and Asakura, Actually, I Am…) is in charge of the series scripts. Yōsuke Itō (King's Game The Animation) is designing the characters, and also serves as the chief animation director.

The "light, antique mystery" series based on Mai Mochizuki's novel series revolves around a "spiteful," handsome Kyoto boy and a high school girl. The story is set at an antique shop in Kyoto's Teramachi Sanjō shopping district. High school girl Aoi Mashiro unexpectedly runs into Kiyotaka Yagashira, the son of the shop's owner, and ends up working part-time at the shop. Kiyotaka is called the "Holmes at Teramachi Sanjō," and he and Aoi solve odd cases brought to them by various clients.
