Umineko: When They Cry Game Gets Kickstarter for English Dub
posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
Catbox Creative announced on Thursday that it will launch a Kickstarter campaign for an English dub for 07th Expansion's Umineko When They Cry (Umineko no Naku Koro ni) visual novel on November 7 at 1:00 p.m. EST. Catbox Creative will run the campaign in cooperation with Sound Cadence Studios, 07th Expansion, Witch Hunt Translation Group, and MangaGamer.
The campaign has an official website that is streaming a 19-minute announcement video that previews the dub, as well as a new English version of the original opening song "Katayoku no Tori" by AmaLee titled "One-Winged Bird."
The project will fund a "Gold Edition" of the game, which will add full voice acting for the game, as well as updated art based on Rondo of the Witch and Reasoning and Nocturne of Truth and Illusions, the game's PlayStation 3 versions. The campaign will also add new content from Ryukishi07. A fully voiced audiobook version of the game titled Voices of Rokkenjima will also be released for free as a podcast series on iTunes. If funded, those who already own the game's Steam version on PC will have access to the Gold Edition content as a free update.
The campaign will also have merchandise rewards for different pledge tiers.
Umineko no Naku Koro ni, which debuted at Comiket in 2007, also inspired a television anime and manga. In the story, 18 people set foot on the remote island of Rokkenjima in October of 1986, when a spate of murders takes place.
MangaGamer released the Umineko When They Cry -Question Arcs- visual novel on Steam in July 2016, and released the Umineko When They Cry -Answer Arcs- on Steam in November 2017. The company released the Golden Fantasia fighting game spinoff in December.
07th Expansion will release Umineko All in One Package (first announced as Umineko no Naku Koro ni Saku), a compilation disc of all previous Umineko games plus a new scenario. The game will release in summer 2019. 07th Expansion has not announced the platforms for the game.
