posted on by Egan Loo

The official website for the television anime of Minatsuki and As Futatsuya's Dōkyonin wa Hiza, Tokidoki, Atama no Ue. (My Housemate Is on My Lap, But Sometimes on My Head) manga began streaming collaboration promotional videos with "support team leader 'Neko no Suzume-chan'" on Wednesday. Both the website and the videos unveil new cast members. ("Suzume-chan" is "Japan's most popular cat," a three-year-old mixed-breed with 670,000 followers on Instagram as of November.)

The newly announced cast members are:

The videos above preview the opening theme song "Unknown World" by Iori Kanzaki's musical unit Schrödinger's Cat adding kotringo, as well as the ending theme song "Kimi no Tonari Watashi no Basho" (My Place Next to You) by Yoshino Nanjō.

The website also posted the new main visual:

The anime will premiere on AT-X on January 9 at 11:30 p.m., before airing later that evening on ABC TV, and will air on January 10 on Tokyo MX and BS11. The show will stream in Japan on GyaO! and dTV. Starting on Wednesday, the staff is accepting photos of viewers' cats to show as the anime's end cards after each episode.

The cast also includes:

Kaoru Suzuki (Pupipō!, DIVE!!) is directing the anime at Zero-G. Deko Akao (Flying Witch, Amanchu!, Noragami) is in charge of series composition. Masaru Kitao (Death Note, Dances with the Dragons) is designing the characters. Kotoringo (In This Corner of the World) is composing the music.

The manga centers on socially awkward novelist Subaru Mikazuki, who adopts a stray cat. He names it Haru, and they begin their life together. As with the manga, each episode of the anime will have both a "Subaru" and "Haru" chapter that will tackle the story from the point of view of both characters.

Minatsuki and Futatsuya first published a one-shot manga with the same title in Comic Polaris in October 2014, before launching it as a serialized manga in June 2015. Holp Shuppan published the manga's fourth compiled book volume on January 24. The fifth compiled volume will ship on December 13.

The 2017 edition of Takarajimasha's Kono Manga ga Sugoi! (This Manga Is Amazing!) guidebook ranked the manga as #16 in its top 20 list of manga for female readers in 2016. Honya Club's "Zenkoku Shotenin ga Eranda Osusume Comic 2017" (Nationwide Bookstore Employees' Recommended Comics of 2017) poll for bookstore employees also ranked the comic at #3 in 2017.
