Manga launched in 2003, inspired TV anime in 2013

This year's ninth issue of Shogakukan's Big Comic Spirits magazine revealed on Monday that Tobira Oda's Danchi Tomoo manga will end in the magazine's next issue on February 4.

The manga centers around a fourth-grade boy named Tomoo who lives in an apartment complex with his mother and big sister. With his father away on a long-term work contract, Tomoo gets into one misadventure after another with his friends.

Oda launched the manga in Big Comic Spirits in 2003. Shogakukan published the manga's 32nd compiled book volume last September. The manga was nominated for the prestigious Osamu Tezuka Cultural Prizes in 2005, 2006, and 2007.

The manga inspired a television anime adaptation that aired for 78 episodes from April 2013 through February 2015.
