Violet Evergarden I: Eternity and the Auto Memory Doll Glasgow Screening in March

The Glasgow Film Festival 2020 will include two screenings of Kyoto Animation's film Violet Evergarden I: Eternity and the Auto Memory Doll (Violet Evergarden Gaiden: Eien to Jidō Shuki Ningyō), a side story to the Violet Evergarden series. The screenings will be in Japanese with subtitles, and will be on Sunday March 1 at 8.30 p.m. and Monday March 2 at 3.45 p.m.

In addition, the Japanese actress Yui Ishikawa (pictured left), who plays Violet Evergarden, will take part in a Q&A after the screening on March 1. Ishikawa also voices Misaka Ackerman in Attack on Titan, Reina in Pokémon Origins, and Hinaki Shinjō in Aikatsu!.

Glasgow Film Festival tickets are on sale to film festival Members from January 30 at 12 noon, then go on general sale from February 3 at 12 noon.

An all-new story following on from the stunning and emotional animated masterpiece from Kyoto Animation, Violet Evergarden. Isabella, the heir to a noble house, attends a school for well-groomed young women under a ‘contract’ with her father. To her, this beautiful place where white camellias bloom is nothing more than a prison. Having resigned all hope and expectations for her future, Isabella meets her new manners teacher, Violet Evergarden.

Anime Limited has announced that it has bought the rights to the film. The main cast members from the television anime returned for this side story. Minori Chihara performed the the anime's theme song "Amy."

While the anime was originally slated to screen in Japan for two weeks only starting on September 6, it screened for at least five weeks. The film eventually earned a cumulative total of 641,980,500 yen (about US$5.98 million).

The Glasgow Film Festival will also include two screenings of the remastered 4K edition of Satoshi Kon's 2001 film Millennium Actress. The screenings will be in Japanese with subtitles, and will be on Monday March 2 at 9 p.m and on Tuesday March 3 at 1.45 p.m.

Satoshi Kon's classic mind-bending journey through the life and career of a reclusive former actress gets a new 4K remastered presentation. A movie studio is being torn down, and TV interviewer Genya Tachibana has tracked down its most famous star, Chiyoko Fujiwara, who has been a recluse since she left acting some thirty years ago. Tachibana delivers a key to her, and it causes her to reflect on her career; as she's telling the story, Tachibana and his long-suffering cameraman are drawn into her story as an actress, the decades spent acting across various genres and eras.
