The official Twitter account for the Violet Evergarden anime announced on Saturday that Violet Evergarden: Eternity and the Auto Memories Doll (Violet Evergarden Gaiden: Eien to Jidō Shuki Ningyō), a side story to the anime, will continue to open in Japanese theaters as planned on September 6.
While the anime was originally slated to screen for two weeks only, now it will screen for three weeks, from September 6 through September 26.
The side story anime's official website with a visual also opened on Saturday, and announced that Minori Chihara will perform the anime's theme song "Amy."
The anime will also hold its world premiere as planned at the ANImagic convention in Mannheim, Germany, which runs on August 3 and 4. The ANImagic organizers said that the screening will continue "at the express request of the studio."
Haruka Fujita (series director for the television series) is returning to direct the anime. Kyoto Animation is also working on a film project for Violet Evergarden that was previously announced with a January 10, 2020 opening in Japan. With the recent fire in Kyoto Animation's 1st Studio Building, it is unclear if the film will still open on that date.
Kyoto Animation's 1st Studio building suffered a fire on July 18, killing 35 people and injuring 33 others. Kyoto Animation has opened an account to accept donations, which raised 620 million yen (about US$5.7 million) in its first two days. The company will give the funds to families of the deceased and injured victims of the fire, as well as for rebuilding.
