In general, the first season of Reincarnated Aristocrat was all about putting together a crew. The twelve episodes give us enough time to get introduced to each character and have them participate in at least one trial beyond that. Then, everything comes together in the final episode, where Mireille bluntly states the goal of the entire series: for Ars to become emperor.
While Ars has been growing in fame in his own little corner of the province, it's with this episode we see him take his first step onto the bigger stage. Of course, the nobles at the war council don't know what to make of the backwater noble child—even when Couran, the leader of their faction, welcomes Ars, there is discontent. But the real issue is Mireille herself.
Mireille is the greatest strategist of her generation—and she has no patience for fools. The fact that she backs Ars so publicly while at the same time pointing out the flaws in their own battle plans only breeds a deeper resentment. Of course, that is likely her plan. While Ars' immediate goal is to keep his people safe by winning the civil war, Mireille's is to make Ars stand out—to make him appear superior to everyone else in a way that paves the way for Ars' eventual rule. Thus, she gets him to take on a seemingly insurmountable task—one she knows he, or rather Licia, has the ability to overcome.
This brings us to the second half of the episode. Licia is the perfect complement to Ars. While his straightforward earnestness is his greatest asset, her political ability is hers. She knows exactly how to manipulate people to get what she wants—and can read their intentions and goals from a cursory glance. And this is why she's so in love with Ars.
In noble society where everyone lies, Ars is the sole exception. Moreover, he accepts people for who they are. She can be honest and truthful around him—and the kinder world he seeks is the one she'd like to see come to pass.
However, as we see in this episode, that's not the only reason she wants to marry him. In many ways, he's a fish among sharks—all but defenseless to anyone he is unable to win over. As the most politically savvy in any room she enters, she wants to be beside him to protect him. As a fiance, she can only do so much. As a wife, she could stand by his side in nearly all social situations. Thus, she attempts to coerce him into marriage as soon as she sees feasible—i.e., at the end of the war. There's just one thing she didn't count on: Ars truly loves her and wants her by his side as well.
Thus, despite their young ages, the two decide to get married immediately—to keep each other close and protect each other. If nothing else, Ars' reincarnation has given him a unique perspective on death and how suddenly it can come—and so he knows to seize joy whenever he can, as the moment may never come again.
