Pokémon Go Game's World Championship Crowns 1st-Ever Indian Champion in 2025

The Pokémon GO smartphone game's Instagram account announced on September 1 that Ved Bamb has been crowned the first-ever Indian Pokémon GO world champion. His winning team was comprised of Tinkaton, Steelix, Galarian Moltres, Lapras, Marowak, and Annihilape.

The Pokémon GO smartphone game launched “Pikachu in a kurta” (pictured right) as a limited-run character in India in celebration of Holi in 2025. The character was available to capture on the app from March 13 through March 17. The Pokémon Festivities event in October 2024 revealed the designs for Pikachu in a kurta while launching “Pikachu in a saree” as a limited-run Diwali character in Pokémon GO. The event also saw the launch of the Pokémon-themed festive Yakult gift packs featuring the new designs.

Niantic launched it's Pokémon GO app in Hindi in September 2023. The Pokémon Company launched its Pokédex webpage in Hindi having renamed over 800 Pokémon. Niantic also launched a Hindi landing page for the Pokémon GO game.

The Pokémon Asia Official YouTube channels began streaming the Camping Trip with Pokémon CG/live-action shorts last October. It is also streaming “The Journey of One Dream” animated short film in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Bengali on their respective regional language channels.

Pokémon GO initially hosted the Indian qualifiers for the game's 2022 World Championship in May 2022. It hosted its 2023 qualifiers from April 15 to 16, from May 20 to 21, and on June 3. It had its regional playoffs on June 4, 2023.
