The List
Anime's 8 Feistiest Female Redheads

by Lynzee Loveridge,
Has the frost moved into your neck the woods yet? We put a pellet stove into our dilapidated wood stove in hopes of heating this place, but it only makes me itchier to move into my brand new home starting in January. You see, my own feisty redhead turned three last month, and he isn't exactly thrilled about the whole moving adventure. However, HE did inspire the topic for this week's list. Let's get started!

8. Ayano Kannagi (Kaze no Stigma) Fire manipulator Ayano Kannagi is the brash and arrogant successor to the Kannagi family. She wields the family's sacred sword and holds the power of the Crimson Flame, although she can't control it consciously. Her attempts to solve everything through force often gets her into trouble, and the sheer contempt she initially holds for the series' protagonist, Kazuma, suggests she's a force to be reckoned with.

7. Koume Sawaguchi (Blue Seed) Blue Seed's Koume is all about big guns and bigger personality. She uses an arsenal of weapons to take down the threatening aragami, using her skills left-over from the Japanese Self-Defense Forces. She's hot-headed, a trait that got her transferred out of the JSDF and into her current bazooka-wielding position.

6. Vita (Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha A's) Inspired by the Norse god, Thor, Vita is a quick-to-anger fighter wielding a shape-shifting hammer. She's fiercely loyal to her master and goes to great lengths to serve her to her full capacity, including hunting Nanoha. Her size is misleading, as she can throw spells with the best with them, earning bonus points for being a redhead that DOESN'T specialize in fire magic.

5. Lirin (Saiyuki) A yokai princess with a trigger temper, Lirin is usually the happy-go-lucky fighter of the Saiyuki crew. Her skill in hand to hand combat is only outdone by her love of food, and heaven forbid you make her angry lest you end up under a giant rock. Like other redheads on the list, Lirin is also skilled at fire sorcery with her own attack "Little Lirin Fire Balls".

4. Kei (Dirty Pair) One half of the Lovely Angels duo, Kei is as skilled a gunman as she is destructive. If given the opportunity, she'll shoot first and ask questions later, getting the pair out of bad situations by the skin of their teeth. In the original OAV, Kei ignored orders to remain undercover to seek out a wanted terrorists, instead putting on a spacesuit and attacking the targets head-on. She's quick to anger, which might play a part in her ever-revolving love-life. Or maybe it's her fussiness about chest hair.

3. Asuka Langley Sohryu (Neon Genesis Evangelion) There may be no character more haughty than 14-year-old Asuka. To say she takes pride in her achievements is an understatement. She's difficult to work with, laying out abuse to Shinji for his perceived indecisiveness and lack of conviction. Her feisty personality really shines through in episode nine when Shinji and she have to sync up to defeat Israfel. Unfortunately, the same personality traits Asuka is known for are tied closest to her sense of self and ultimately prove her undoing...

2. Kyoko Sakura (Puella Magi Madoka Magica) Confident and constantly munching Kyoko is, at least on the outside, in it for herself. She's a heavy hitter with a giant, extending spear and a quick temper to back it up. Her short fuse is nothing to scoff at, as she'll gladly tear a threat limb from limb if she so much as finds them annoying. She thinks nothing of sacrificing a few innocent bystanders either, if it means she can get a Witch Seed out of the deal.

1. Ranma Saotome (Ranma 1/2) Whether female or male, Ranma is abrasive, selfish, quick to anger, and more than a little dense. He'll antagonize Akane about her chest size, show Kuno the better side of his fists in a one-on-one battle, and outrun his ever-growing league of admirers of either sex before dinner. Life would be simpler for Ranma if he'd think before he acted, but where would be the comedy in that?
