The staff for the One Piece Card Game announced on Thursday that its planned campaign at McDonald's in Japan has been canceled. McDonald's website noted the decision came following a review of the initiatives tied to the fast food chain's Happy Meals (known as Happy Sets in Japan). Instead, restaurants will start distributing toys from previous campaigns with Happy Meal sets on August 29, during the period that had been planned for the One Piece campaign.

The cancelation of the One Piece campaign comes days after the Pokémon Happy Meal debacle. During the Pokémon campaign between August 9 and 11, Happy Meals came with a Pokémon Trading Card Game two-card pack while supplies lasted. However, Japanese news outlets reported that McDonald's locations were swarmed with customers trying to purchase the menu item in bulk.

Following the Pokémon Happy Meal rollout, McDonald's Japan released an apology for “not being able to meet the expectations of our customers who were looking forward to the product due to the early end of distribution." While the company stated it will take measures going forward to prevent bulk purchases of Happy Meal campaign sets, it appears the company has decided to forgo running the Happy Set One Piece Card Game campaign completely.
