Limited-edition manga's OAD from Satelight studio to feature "Ikki vs. Ringo"

This year's 33rd issue of Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine is announcing on Wednesday that the limited edition of the Air Gear manga will bundle an original animation DVD (OAD). The all-new "high-quality" anime will feature the "Ikki vs. Ringo" face-off from the 16th manga volume.

The manga creator "Oh! great" (Ōgure-Ito) launched his Air Gear racing tournament series in Weekly Shōnen Magazine in 2002, and the 29th compiled book volume will ship this week. Del Rey will publish the manga's 15th, 16th, and 17th volumes in one combined bumper volume in North America in August. ADV Films once released Toei's 2006 television anime version of Air Gear in North America, and Funimation has released this earlier anime on DVD and on the web.

Update: More background information added.

Update 2: Shinji Ishihira (Aoi Kokuhaku, Fairy Tail, Tokyo Majin) will storyboard and direct off a script written by Jun Maekawa (Bakugan Battle Brawlers, Digimon Adventure 02, The Prince of Tennis). Satelight is producing the project with character designer Osamu Horiuchi (Burst Angel, Ga-Rei -Zero-, Hayate the Combat Butler). Thomas Romain (Oban Star-Racers, Aria the Natural, Basquash!) and Yann Le Gall (Basquash!) are in charge of the art and prop designs. Stanislas Brunet (Basquash!, Macross Frontier, Nishi no Yoki Majo - Astraea Testament) is responsible for the mechanical designs.

Update 3: Nobuhiko Okamoto will voice the main character Ikki, while Yukari Fukui will play Kururu. Haruka Tomatsu will play Ringo. The main staff and cast for this new Satelight anime are both different from the staff and cast in Toei's 2006 television anime version.
